Violet, Green and Red
(after the painting by Mark Rothko)

It as if
time swallowed itself
and then itself
again

through to the bowels
of destiny
cascades
of lost-green age
Armageddon in a violet field
the red moon
cracked in half

as if a clock stood still
at ten to never will.

Twice nominated for Best of the Net, Neil Ellman lives and writes in New Jersey. Although hundreds of his poems appear in journals throughout the world, he still considers himself the oldest emerging poet in the literary universe.
